Giving voice. On what was lost and found

For many people from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the war meant a forced new beginning in Germany—marked by the loss of their homeland, uncertainty, and difficult challenges. In this event, refugees from that time will share their stories: How did they experience arriving in a new country? What worries, fears, and hopes shaped their first years—and what was it like to return to their old homeland for the first time?
Based on the Documentation Centre’s oral history project From Bosnia to Berlin, we invite you to an engaging and thought-provoking evening. The documentary film Distilled will be shown, in which Asmir visits his hometown in Bosnia-Herzegovina for the first time in almost 30 years. You are also invited to listen to eyewitness accounts in storytelling cafés and share your own memories of the 1990s.
