"Only the Forest Remains"

The film "Only the Forest Remains" is a search for traces of the Gunskirchen satellite concentration camp in Upper Austria. Together with Shoah survivor Shaul Spielmann, directors Hans Seebacher and Tobias Hochstöger embark on a journey in which they encounter silence, shame and repression, but also meet local residents and neighbours who are actively confronting their town’s dark past. A documentary that gains intensity through its restrained observation.
From 5–10 May 2026, the Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg (JFBB) will showcase just how contemporary, diverse and surprising Jewish storytelling in cinema is today. With 60 films from 21 countries, it is one of the most important forums for Jewish cinema in Europe. The film "Only the Forest Remains" is a competition entry at the 32nd Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg.
